Nature Tourism of Kalibiru

History

Nature tourism of Kalibiru was built by initiative of communities around the state forest hoping that the forest keep on grow green, fresh aired, and sustainable. This nature tourism development was not separated from the long process of community efforts around the forest in returning forest that used to  barren and dry.

The development of Kalibiru nature tourism was conducted as a form of environmental services utilization based on Permit of Using Community Forest for 35 years - (counted from February 14, 2008) – thaw was obtained by the groups on forest management for the belief was given by the Government to the communities surrounding that state forest .

One attraction of this ​​natural tourism area is the beautiful landscape that comes from the harmonization between the green forest with a wide expanse of hilly with its beautiful and fascinating landscapes. Local people there are also known as friendly, polite, have a sense of kinship and mutual cooperation, still maintain a wide various of traditional culture and art, so it all causes a comfort and calm sense to anyone visiting there.

Support Facilities

Visitor of Kalibiru nature tourism can also enjoy a number of supporting facilities as follows:

- Cottage tour

Is a lodging facility with design of "Javanese village homes" that have been modified. In this area there are 6 units tourism lodge facilities with each capacity for 10-15 people. The existence of this cottage is also supported by the Homestays that actually are houses belong to people around the area.

- Joglo (meeting room):

Meeting Rooms in this area are available in the form of original "Joglo House". There are 3 units of meeting rooms, 2 units of ceramic floors, 1 unit of cement floors, each having a capacity up to 75 people.

- Viewing Post

This viewing post on Menoreh hill can be a place to see the natural landscape surround it.

- Library

The existence of this library is to support the progress of the communities learning around Kalibiru area.

- Flying Fox

There are two flying fox tracks on Kalibiru:

• 1 track for children, its length is 50 m, with low grade

• 1 track for adult, its length is 85 m, with medium grade

- Tracking route

This tracking route is round along the Kalibiru area. Beside it is used to do sports and refreshing, through this route, we can identify various kinds of forest plants. This tracking activity can be travelled by several alternative routes:

Cloce Path (2-3 km): a circular route from the region - passing several trail path (grazing path) – entering to local people settlements - back to the region.

Medium Path (3-4 km): a circular route from the region – passing through several trail path (grazing path) - combing small rivers in the area – entering to residential population - back to the region.

Kalibiru natural tourism is lied on the Menoreh hill, situated on a height of 450 m asl, in Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta. It is located on west side of Yogyakarta city about 40 km, or 10 km from Wates, capital of Kulon Progo.
