Mosque Pathok Negara Taqwa Wonokromo lies on 5.000 meters area, is located quiet distance from the center of city, precisely next to the River Opak and Oya.
Initially, its building forms a cone which its top ia a casserole made of clay. In 1913, it was totally renovated. Its bamboo wall was changed with jack-fruit wooden. Its wall and floor were also changed into the better one.
Its history started from a figure named Kyai Mohammad Fakih who were an Islam teacher. He was living in village Ketonggo. Because of his job, creating 'Welit' of roof made of thatch-grass, he then was called as "Kyai Welit".
Sometime, Sultan Hamengkubuwono I wanted to see Kyai Moh Fakih to learn knowledge from hi, however he refused the request of the Sultan. He said that his knowledge was only given for this students.
Then, Sultan had to disguise i order to be get knowledge from Mohammad Fakih. From his undercover, Sultan asked Fakih how to make the maintain the country to be safe. Fakih said to Sultan that in order to have a secure country, he has to find good and great people called "Pathok" to be involved.
Later, Sultan take those pathok and gave them area called perdikan land or free of tax. (tanah bebas pajak). Kedua, Sultan harus memilih "Kenthol" (kepala pedesaan/desa) yang karena tugasnya ia diberi tanah pelungguh.
