Traditional ceremony held by wonolelo villagers, Widomartani, Ngemplak, Sleman. In this ceremony, sacred heirlooms bequeathed by Kiai Wonolelo is involved. Kiai Wonolelo was the direct descendant of Prabu Brawijaya. He was regarded as the ancestors opening Pondok Wonolelo and original inhibitor of Wonolelo village.
The ceremony is stricted to certain rules and steps such as:
- first, the ceremony begins. Several persons in traditional Javanese dress
attend the ceremony
- second, the sacred heirlkoom sof Ki Ageng Wonolelo is paraded to his grave
- third, the heirlooms are offered to juru kunci
- fourth, one of KI Ageng Wonolelo’s descendants read the biography of Ki Ageng
Wono Lelo
- fifth, Ki Ageng Wonolelo’s entires descendants sow flowers onto his tomb
- sixth, the heirlooms are brought back or returned to the place they are formely
kept
- last, apems are distributed by Ki Ageng wono Lelo’s descendants to all of pilgrims.
And, when the night comes, wungon (being awke the whole night long) ceremony is
held.
This ceremony is intended to:
1. to remember the ancestors; to commemorate Ki Ageng Wono Lelo’s services and
his higness all over Yogyakarta and the surrounding regions
2. to gather Wonolelo’s descendant. They belonging are organization of Wonolelo’s
Lineage.
3. to ask the god’s blessing so that Wono Lelo society and wonolelo’s descendant
will be free of disasters and all of black magical disturbance.
The Saparan ceremony in Wonolelo is held once a year on every Sapar month. this
ceremony usually takes place on Pahing Thursday or the night of Pon Friday or
Thursday until Sunday in the first week of Sapar Month. the tradition has been
existing since 1969. The entire ceremony is held in Kampong Pondok Wono Lelo
i.e in the house of the head of Widamartani Village. He is one of Wonolelo’s descendants.
The sacred heirlooms of Wonolelo are among others:
1. Ontrokusumo shirt or Ontrokusumo bra called Gondhil
2. Bondhil in shape of rope
3. Holy Korans. One of them is written by Ki Ageng Wono Lelo.
4. Flakes or cupu taken from the mosque built by Ki Ageng Wono Lelo
5. Karyah used by Ki Ageng Wono Lelo when Sultan Agung ordered him to conguer
Palembang
6. Teken, walking stick, used by Ki Ageng Wono Lelo when he spread out islam
in Pondok Wono Lelo.
Among the sacred heirlooms, those involved in the ceremony are merely four i.e Kiai Ganhil, Holy Koran Karyah, and flakes of Mustake Masjid (mosque dome). Bandhil and walking stick have been destroyed. Other materials needed are jali, a little house into which heirlooms are put when being paraded.
Sego Tumpeng, ketan kolak, apem, chicken ingkung, two glass of drink water, raja banana, flowers, incense, and apem, are needed in tahlilan.
