Rejeban Jatimulya

Traditional ceremony of Rejeban Jatimulyo is mainly held at the former place of Padepokan Puramanik, Dusun Gunung Kelir, Desa Jatimulyo, Kecamatan Girimulyo, Kulon Progo. The Padepokan is located on the hillside of Gunung Kelir below the tree of Gondhangho, therefore people call this place Gondhangho. Tradition of rejeban is held as a thankfulness of community of Jatimulyo toward the Almighty for all of the safety, peaceful, and success in farming.

This tradition is celebrated on Rejeb (Javanese Month), to be more specific on Tuesday (Selasa Kliwon) or Friday (Jumat Kliwon). The main event is held at noon around 11.00 WIB. The religious offering for the night before Jumat Kliwon of Selasa Kliwon is an opening of the sequence of the ceremony of Rejeban to be done correctly. There is a communal praying (tirakatan) at Kertiokromo's house attended by all of the people from seven villages of Gunung Kelir.

The offerings are as follows:
- Panggang Ayam, symbolizing the close relationship to the Almighty,
- Tumpeng Pitu, symbolizing the seven days,
- Golong Sajodho, a symbol of gumolonging, togatherness of willpower,
- Jenang Moncowarno, consists of seven colors: red for courage, white for purity, yellow for glory, green for hope, slewah for two, cross for border, and black for aims,
- Sekar Telon, consists of kanthil, jasmine, and roses.

The main offerings are Ayam panggang, Kupat lepet, Jenang Moncowarno, Golong sajodho, Tumpeng pitu, Sekar telon, and Wedhus kendhit (a sheep).
All of them is placed in Jolen, and wedhus kendhit with the other traditional equipment and art (jathilan, angguk, etc) are brought to the location of the ceremony at Gondhangho. On the location, the procession walks circling the place for three times, and the offerings are taken into the location.

The core of the ceremony is begun with slaughtering the wedhus kendhit (a sheep) below the tree of Gondhangho. The head, leg and its tail are burried and the people cook the meat as a "tolak bala" (prevention) of bad evil. The meat will be given to all of the people who join in the ceremony with a hope that everyone who eats the meat will receive a grace.

By those offerings, people belive that they will be avoided and prevented from trouble, burden, or tragedy. The main sequence of the ceremony is ended by Rois and continued with luch at the place. After all, people will also enjoy several traditional entertainments such as tayub and jathilan. Based on local beliefs, tayub and jathilan seem to be liked by the pepundhen of the village.
