His main ability is painting. Z. Teguh Suwarto, had been intersted in painting since he was at the elementary school. He used to paint the puppets. He then studied at painting of SGA (Sekolah Guru Atas). He began to concern in painting where he could take advantage from it. When he worked at Taman Budaya, he was given authority to manage the art division. He once studied the art of batik to Kuswaji, who made him joint the gallery of Pak Kus.

He then hold exhibition activelly in 1975. His first exhibition was when the opening of bulungan stadium Jakarta. His typical technic is linear textured line garis. He chose it because when he studied at ASRI, he concerned in the wooden fiber. From it, he then produced some abstract works. In 1990, he succeded achieve the sarjana degree of painting art at ISI Yogyakarta.

He admitted that he could get the knowledge of painting from his formal education. He also joined the sanggar Pelukis Indonesia Muda led by Widayat in 1973. He had been producing many works of art. His master piece was a painting entitled "Binal" in 1994. It achieved the first position on the competition at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta in 1994. Another award that he achieved was the golden medal from KORPRI in 1985 as KORPRI celebrated its anniversary.

He also participated other exhibitions such as the exhibition of "Kebebasan" (freedom) at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta; exhibition in Madiun, Malang, Pontianak, Balikpapan, and Bandung with Taman Budaya all over Indonesia.
