Vocational Education Development Center for Arts and Crafts (VEDAC) is the center for technical implementation unit in Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education, which is expected to play the role as agent of development of the national education quality to planning, actuating, evaluating, and developing of the education and training for teachers in the national scope of arts and crafts for upgrading the national quality, efficiency, and relevancy of the national education.

The scopes of training are school management, developing facilities, and especially upgrading professional skills of the teachers in mastering the knowledge and skills of each subject. The other targets are academic development and forming high working attitude among the teachers. In addition to that, VEDAC also at the developing the teachers' practical business competence in arts, crafts, and design.

In the future, VEDAC is expected to play the role as an agent of development for quality of artistic products and education of arts and crafts. It is not only for the development of Arts and Crafts Vocational High School (SMK-SK) but also for such common schools like Kindergarten (TK), Elementary School (SD), Junior High School (SLTP), Senior High School (SMU), and Education for the Disabled (PLB). VEDAC has some units with full complement facilities: Educational Unit, Arts and Crafts Studio, Support, and Facilities and Services.

VEDAC also has a main job and function that is to maintain, develop and improve the quality of senior high schools especially in terms of materials and the teaching and learning techniques in the arts and crafts. There are 53 state and private schools which are undersupervision all over Indonesia.

VEDAC Yogyakarta started its activity as The Project of Improving the Development Center of the Art Teacher Training at September 1, 1983. The activity was first held in Dalem Ngadiwinatan, at the Yogyakarta Palace which is located at the South Square. The new campus was built in 1985/1986 and it was completed in 1988/1989 at Klidon, Sukoharjo, Ngaglik, Sleman on Januari 1, 1988.
