One of birth traditions in Javanese culture is Sepasaran. This kind of ceremony aims to requesting the welfare for the baby. The set of offerings is as follows:
- For noble family: five types of porridge, jajan pasar (various snacks usually available at traditional market), nasi tumpeng gudangan, and nasi golong.
- For common people: nasi tumpeng janganan, jenang abang putih (red and white porridge), jenang baro-baro, and jajan pasar.

This is a ceremony performed when the baby has been five days old. Sepasaran is held after dusk, attended by the baby, mother and fother, and relatives. There are some forbidden food in this ceremony, i.e. sambal (chilly sauce), vegetable cooked in coconut milk, egg, fresh-water fish, and salty egg.
