The word "gunungan" in Javanese language means "like a mountain", or "similar
in shape to a mountain". Gunungan is one of the physical manifest of thankfulness
offerings ("sajen wilujengan" in Javanese) which is particularly made for specific
purpose in a traditional ceremony such as "Wilujengan Negari" on every garebeg.
Gunungan Lanang on the top part is called "mustaka" (head) which has a cake from rice flavor which is called "badheran" since the shape is similar to a fish named "badher". Badheran would have five buckets of "melati" (a name of flower) with "kantil" (a name of flower) on the top side.
The "mustaka" will be covered by a series of rice flavor cake in the shape of small balls called "bendul". There is another series of egg below the rice flavor cake. On the main body of the gunungan, there are hundreds of beans, and on the top of it there is another cake in the shape of a ring made of sticky rice which is called "kucu" and every kucu has another triangle cake called "upil-upil". There are also hundres of red chili, nine sour eggs and nine salty eggs. Each Gunungan Lanang is placed on a giant dish structured of wood.
The giant dish has also additional "tumpeng" for more or less twelve tumpeng of rice. Besides there are also four coconuts and a pair of coconut leaves on the "kain bangun tulak". On the four directions, there are a series of melati.
