Tradition of Plangkah, which derives from the word "mlangkah", to step forward, appears in the Javanese traditional custom of wedding ceremony. Plangkah means a gift from younger brother/sister to the older one as a symbol of asking permission to marry first.

Plangkah happens since in the Javanese tradition, creating a new family is usually done orderly from the oldest son/daughter which is followed by the younger brother/sister.

It functions as a peace guardian in the familyhood and also a symbol of thankfulness because of the permission to marry first.
